When someone can make you doubt what you believe in, you will falter and become insecure in the foundation of your faith. You will respond with doing something that makes you have to lie. Then you will fear being found out. Your enemies are drawn to that fear because that's your weakness exposed and you will be an easy target for their arrows.
A person strongly grounded in their values and standing on what they believe in no matter what the cost have on strong armor the enemy's arrows cannot penetrate. In J.R.R. Tolkiens trilogy of The Lord of the Rings, Frodo wore the mystical armor of the Dwarves called mithril and it saved him from death in the cave troll attack. It protected his chest and thus his heart. His heart was true and he was able to carry the "one ring" without it corrupting him until he was able to destroy it. Our values and what we believe in are centered in the area of our heart. Compassion comes from our heart. When we are not true to our heart, it grieves our spirit and allows guilt to create fear. These are all inroads of the enemy to wreck havoc in our lives.
If we want to be successful in what we are trying to accomplish, we must put on the full armor of God and stand for what is true. Compassion, love and truth must be our motivation, never fearing what others may do no matter how important or influental they are. God is bigger and more powerful than anything in this world. We have to always remember that the battle is His, not ours. We are His instruments to bring forth the victory but He is the one in control. He will protect us as long as we are true to our heart but when we falter in our fear of the enemy, the enemy is able to attack us. This is because the sowing and reaping process is within us, working to expose the error in us and release us to the Christ consciousness we really are. We will reap what we sow. "God shall not be mocked, therefore whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap."
Ephesians: 6 - 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--
