Making Wise Choices

When we are in a process of change in our lives, it is important to remember that ultimately God will work us through any of the possibilities we may choose, even if we fall back on our path and make decisions based on selfish desires. It may not be God's perfect plan for us but as long as we are praying and working toward growth and change in our lives, he will direct us toward better things no matter how long it may take."He will finish that good work in us which he started."
God does have a perfect plan for us, and if we choose it and surrender our possibilities to him, he will guide us step by step into his will for us. This plan would be the one that brings his blessings into our life. We would still be succeptible to making mistakes etc. but his hand would guide us gently and the blessings would still come. Our growth would take on a pleasant aspect and peace and joy would enter our world. Much would be accomplished as he leads us and puts us where he wants us and with whom he wants us. We would help others and be a vessel for the Holy Spirit to heal and set others free, even as we grow.

When we make a choice to fall back into the world, it is never really to help someone else even though we can convince ourselves that love is our motivation. It is always because of something we want. God's unconditional love never pleases itself at the expense of the loved one. It never encourages or benefits from anyone's addictions in their old nature. If we try to get our needs met through another person, God won't bless it simply because it's not His unconditional love. If it's based on self-getting and self-satisfaction, it can only attract the negative aspects of God's judgment to both people because God loves us too much to let us have what we think we want that will ultimately block our path to the Kingdom. Because he gave us free will to do as we choose, he will let us have as much of our own way as we need until we decide to come back to him. He will still work in us and direct us and others we are with, but we will be open to curses and negative sowing and reaping rather than blessings until we come back into his will.

There are always so many possibilities that it is very difficult for a human being to sort it all out and make the right choice without help from God. Sometimes what looks like the sensible choice isn't God's plan at all. Sometimes the right choice is what everyone else will look at as a terrible mistake! You may suffer worldly persecution or redicule for what God calls you to do. The possibility that looks like success, fame and fortune might be the one God says "No way" to! However it appears to be, if you surrender to him and let him guide you, he will take you step by step into his plan for you. This is the plan that will ultimately take you into the Kingdom, not that you wouldn't get there otherwise at some point, just that it will be an awesome path strewn with blessings and exciting new things you never dreamed of!

Someone once said you can take the high road or the low road. You will get there eventually whatever road you take, just don't delude yourself into thinking you can take the low road and have a wonderful time. Did you ever wonder why some Christians just fall into the blessings of God for them almost immediately and start spreading love and healing freely wherever they go and others go through tribulation after tribulation that never seems to end? The difference is that some stubbornly will not give up the pursuit of satisfying their own desires. Insistant self will and unwillingness to give up sin and selfishness still are the false god they follow. On the other hand, some fall before God destitute and repentent immediately, giving their errant will to his and following with heart-felt obedience and gratitude his every word for them.

If you have a difficult life choice to make, think about all those possibilities for a little while, then surrender them all, every single one, to God. Lay them down and then stop thinking about any of them! Wait with patience until you feel his gentle hand on you, leading you to do something. You'll feel right about it, it will glow with promise and you will move with peace in your heart toward that objective. You will see evidences that verify that choice around you, cues and clues everywhere, open doors, open windows, all will fall into place. You won't be able to not do it! Desire and motivation will be strong and lead to a passionate excitement to jump in! Don't resist it....go for it and God will bless you around every turn. He will annoint your life and everything you do when you are in his will!

When you think of a possibility and all you feel are blocks or all you see is problems around every turn, if your mind gets weary of the confusion and negative energy expressed most of the time and you feel you just can't go on living like this anymore, it is time to give it up to God! Either God will turn it all around for you when you finally take your hands off or that possibility is not his plan for you. Either way, you can't lose when you surrender it. The only real and lasting peace and joy for any of us is his plan and when that is finally realized, nothing is worth giving that up for. Nothing can possibly be better than his way and any way that's not his belongs to the enemy! It is so much better to be under God's mercy and grace as he leads us rather than being under judgment until we get back to God's path. We might be miserable for a long time before we wise up and that's not something to look forward to!

The depth of sin in the human nature is hard for us to comprehend. We may seek out our motivations to see if they are pure but most often we don't see clearly enough or dig deep enough to find the truth in ourselves. We have too many blinds that protect us from our own problem areas. That's why God wants us to let him show us our heart. As we surrender to the process, it is humiliating and humbling to see what errant paths our sin nature takes us on. What selfishness and decption we live in! What greedy and grasping motivations we have for everything! What can we do to escape such an evil as we in our old natures are?

Only through Christ and the new mind he gives us do we have a chance at another way of life. As we grasp onto his lifeline, he pulls us out of the mud and mire and sets us on solid ground. Through his healing love and gentle guidance, we emerge as a new creature with a new mind and a new heart desiring above all things to be obedient to our Heavenly Father. This is the key. This is the answer to all things. This is where, if we rest and wait with patience, God will bring his plan for us into being, transforming our lives and blessing us beyond measure as he does it.
